I've heard that it means either "stay with me" or "stay with me forever." However since I'm not a Quileute nor do I speak Quileute, I can't verify the accuracy.

it happens to be the phrase that Jacob Black whispers to Bella Swan in New Moon, the movie, just before he kisses her.

According to EW.com it means: Stay with me forever

"Stay with me forever" Is what it means.

Jacob says it to Bella in New Moon before he kisses her.

It's "Stay with me forever?" i don't know about that. How reliable is your source? Wikianswers isn't very reliable because anybody can post on Wiki, duh. I thought it was "I love you". Which makes perfect sense actually, so the person who said that previously was not retarted. I know that in the books he doesn't say that till Eclipse (I'm not stupid, and i've read the books three times so don't say i'm confused) but if you actually watched the movie then you would know that in the end Bella clearly says to Jacob "I love you." However she then goes on to say that she loves Edward more and that she's sorry. Yeah i know that didn't happen in New Moon the book but i didn't write the script so don't blame me.

No! Que Quowle Means "Stay with me forever" Not Kwop Kilawtley! So if you all think that, where ever you got it from or who you got it from is the retard! it could mean i love you, Bella doesnt know that. so SHhhhhhh!

Michelle said...

I'm a Quileute, and what Jacob says to Bella is "Kwop Kilawtley", not "Quo Quowle". Kwop Kilawtley means "Stay with me forever". Take it from me, this is what Jacob says to her and what it means. If you listen closely to the scene, you can clearly hear Kwop Kilawtley, not Quo Quowle.

Nicole D said...

Kwop Kilawtley IS "stay with me forever", it is not i love you and is not spelt "Que Quowle". and if you watch carefully they do kiss, but their lips only touch for half a second. By the way, the phone in the backround was controled by the director.

It does not actually means "stay with me forever".

According to old Quillayute or Quileute people it means "come closer (to me)".
My father of my greatgrandfather was one of this tribe.

So, please no more arguing the source from EW.com - they don't exactly know what it is.
The language is almost extinct even my uncle knows very little about this.

According to him, he said that there is no such sentence or word for "love"... however, Quillayute shows it out instead of saying.

The language is NOT today anymore, they speaks American English like you guys.(even though it's quite strange accent)
My family was out of the habitat (of course, and out of the tribe) for almost a century... Even me, don't know much about it.

Quillayute language is not a language you can say... it's much like growling and snoring... in the other word, they speak by their throat.

It's true, their beliefs that their ancestors were a werewolf, no matter how unbelieveable it is. I can say that they speak, NO Not speaking - "
communicate" like a wolf... but mixing with some humanity.

Incredible? I don't wanna believe that too. But it is.

P.S. Please don't go chasing them in Washington, leave them alone in peace!

I don't know but I think I kind of believe your story, tangsawanit. Although I cannot prove the authenticity of what you just said, it is believable to me. So, thank you! And you're right, people need to leave these people in peace.

By the way, is "Kwop kilawtley" really the exact phrase for it?

tangsawanit said...

By the way, is "Kwop kilawtley" really the exact phrase for it?

Not really. It can be written like that "in English", but it is not exactly right pronunciation.

The right pronunciation is too difficult to explain using English... really!
As I said, Quillayute speaks by their throats and communicates using wolf gestures combining with human's. It involves everything, your face expression, your eyes, your movement, your mouth, hands, gestures by turning your head, and something more. However, it is usually not doing all of them together, but mostly 2 or 3 of them, depending.

I don't know either about how to do gestures for "Kwop kilawtley", but I know the pronunciation.
To make the closest pronunciation using English alphabets is impossible, but this is the nearest...

First, "K" is to say "without" the vocal voice of "K", but just "K" in your throat... like something is sticking in your throat and you want to spit it out. Now you know the "K" sound.

So, "Kwop kilawtley" is pronounced "Kwopf Kil-awt-lkay". It's really hard to type its pronunciation... because it's even harder to say.

Thank you for believing my story, Shane. Actually, at first, I don't think anybody would trust my true story at all, but I don't care as long as it's the truth in my blood!
You do... and you understand what I've written. I do appreciate!

Shane said...

I wasn't sure you'll come back to this blog and answer my question so thank you once again. You're right, it's difficult to pronounce these words but I do find your culture very interesting. I just hope that the new "Quillayute" generation will continue the legacy that your rich culture have.

tangsawanit said...

You are welcome... :D
Actually, that is because I subscribe for this topic, so any new posts are sent to my E-Mail.

You are very interesting person, and you try to learn something new. That's a very good point of you.

It is not hopeless for Quillayute to continue our legacy. Elder people are encouraging a new generation to learn things, especially the language. We do hope that our tribe will continue to be even more prosperous soon.

But, you know what? Answering and discovering (from my father, uncles, and grandparents) these things, just make me want to go back to my tribe again!

And, actually, if Taylor did say that, it is still not the true meaning of that.

You people are idiots! You guys ask for help and then comment back against somebody that actually knows what they`re talking about. When someone tells you they are actually from the tribe and they tell you what the words mean, why to you have to take that step to say "well the internet says different?" I think you guys are just looking for something to argue about. You wanna play know it all when you know nothing. If you read all the internet translations, they do tell you that it is a dying language and they THINK it means stay with me forever or I love you. They don`t say it DOES mean that for sure. Maybe you should just listen to the people who are just trying to help you and stop being so darn stubborn!

P.S. Thanks for your help tangsawanit! I apologize for all the UNGRATEFUL people on here.

Anonymous said...

Look guys when people offer you help, why is it so hard to take it? You ask a question of what kwop kilawtley truly means, and instead of thanking the person for an honest answer, you retaliate saying that the internet says something different. The internet is like a paparazzi, only they can`t find any real people to harrass so they blog their insanity online. You should really just say "Thank you" to tangsawanit since he is actually giving you an honest answer of the TRUE meaning. What happened to respect for knowledge?

tangsawanit said...

That was so OK. Thank you so much for defending me.

Anyway, I do not care that much about people not believing. Well, as long as they haven't said bad things to me.

As I first said,
>>"I don't think anybody would trust my true story at all, but I don't care as long as it's the truth in my blood!"<<

For any concern, I have been living in the country named "Thailand" with my parents and little brother. My grandfather have moved here since he was in love with a Thai girl visiting Seattle.
However, that was not the reason why we left the tribe. It was a long time ago history - the grandfather of him had moved to live in Seattle, perhaps for doing business, I believe.
